⚠️ Important State BMV Exam Rules

International Driver Licenses: If you hold a driver's license from another country, please text us prior to scheduling so we can review your documentation and ensure you have everything required by the state before taking your test.

Permit & No-Show Policy: You must present your valid Indiana Learner's Permit at your appointment. Arriving without a valid permit or failing to appear for your test counts as an automatic failure and forfeits registration fees.

Retake Wait Period: Indiana law mandates a mandatory 7-day waiting period before re-testing if you do not pass on your first attempt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to take Driver Education before taking the test? +
No. If you are 17 years of age or older, Indiana state law allows you to take the official BMV driving skills test directly as long as you hold an active Indiana Learner's Permit.
What skills and maneuvers are evaluated during the exam? +
The test evaluates basic vehicle control and safe driving practices, including backing in a straight line, smooth stopping, lane changes, proper signaling, speed management, and obedience to traffic control devices.
What happens after I pass the driving test? +
Upon passing, Drive Zone will issue an official state driving test waiver. You present this waiver directly to any Indiana BMV branch to receive your official Indiana Driver's License!
What causes an automatic failure on the driving test? +
Automatic failures include moving violations (speeding, running red lights/stop signs), causing a preventable crash, failing to yield to pedestrians or right-of-way traffic, refusing to follow examiner instructions, or failing to bring a valid Learner's Permit.

This is a Skills Test, and does in any way represent a guarantee of receiving a license. Individuals must successfully complete the test with a passing grade to receive their license paperwork.
